Practice History
Those who already know Colin Taylor will appreciate the irony of starting the business on 1 April 1992 - otherwise known as April Fools Day. Since that day, the business has continued to grow and became a partnership in 1995 with the admission of Paul Eldred. In addition to the partners, we have no fewer than three qualified Chartered Certified Accountants amongst our staff, all of whom trained and qualified with us.
The Practice began life in two small offices located in Mill Road and in 1995 moved to our present offices at The Sycamores in Kneesworth Street.
We can honestly empathise with new clients who have just started their new business venture because we've already been there ourselves.
Partner and Staff profiles
Colin Taylor
Over 50, and keeps fit by playing Squash and "ping pong", sorry table tennis. Colin achieved his life long ambition of running his own Practice in 1992 after having worked for over 26 years for another firm. Colin has "Trodden the Boards" many a time in Cambridge! Colin began training in the days of £sd and qualified after decimalisation. He is a lifelong Manchester United fan.
Paul Eldred
In his mid forties, Paul doesn't go in for energetic sports activity, but prefers to immerse himself in 30 metres or so of clear blue coral sea, although this is normally swapped for 25 metres of dark horrible sludgy British lake or sea water. Paul qualified as an Accountant in 1994 and qualified as a Scuba instructor in 1997. He dislikes football with a passion and would love to get another motorbike!
Adrian Winter
Following the completion of his A Levels in 1989, Adrian commenced his professional training and qualified at the first attempt in June 1995. He had previously worked with Colin at another firm and joined Taylor & Co in September 1992, following the businesses formation in April 1992. He had also worked with Paul Eldred, although the majority of that contact was at the local public houses!
Since qualification Adrian has been admitted as a Fellow of 'The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants'.
Adrian feels that his only real objective in life is to get Colin to shave off his moustache.
Peter Curnow
Having left the cold and bleak wilds of Newcastle upon Tyne, Peter joined the firm in the autumn of 2000. With previous vocations ranging from deer stalking to refuse collection, Peter took well to the world of accountancy and recently qualified in the summer of 2003. As the youngest qualified member of the team, Peter enjoys his 'nights out' and is always on the lookout for Colin's castoffs. Due to Peter's accent he is often likened to Ant and Dec, and no one can understand a word he says. Being slightly tall, his main hope is that one day, someone will raise the doorframes by a couple of inches to protect his fragile brain.
Sarah Brisley
Before embarking on her Accountancy career, Sarah had the ideal background - apart from having been a teacher for a year, she left University with a degree in Physics. No, Sarah is unable to explain the connection between Physics and Accountancy either, as she has never encountered debits and neutrinos on the same day yet.
She sits on the Board of Governors at her daughters' school and Sarah has kept her main ambition a secret!
Tracey Prentice
Simply the most important person at Taylor & Co. Tracey is PA to the partners and manages to organise them both - no easy task as you may imagine! On top of that she monitors the coffee supplies to ensure that everyone is assured of their caffeine fix first thing in the morning. Tracey manages to juggle work life with caring for her partner and three children…no wonder she has to go to the Gym daily and give the punch bag "what for". Her main ambition is to jump out of an aeroplane at some ridiculous height - with a working parachute that is!
